Program Summary:
The Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases, a major program of Sabin, is an advocacy initiative dedicated to raising the awareness, political will and funding necessary to control and eliminate the most common neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)–a group of disabling, disfiguring and sometimes deadly diseases affecting more than 1.4 billion people worldwide living on less than $1.25 a day. Position Summary:
The Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (GN) seeks a Grassroots and Communications Intern* responsible for providing grassroots and communications support to GN staff. The position will provide the candidate with a unique opportunity to be at the cutting edge of the global health field and to gain experience working in a young and fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support in the development of targeted print, online and broadcast media lists
- Provide support in producing strategic communications materials (press releases, fact sheets, media advisories, E-blasts)
- Provide support for social media outreach (Global Network blog, Facebook, Twitter)
- Conduct media outreach during major announcements and events
- Track relevant media coverage and use appropriate metrics for analysis
- Provide youth outreach support to student ambassadors and targeted student organizations
- Provide outreach and research support for academic corps initiative
- Support various list-building efforts (student targets, organizational targets, etc.)
- G-8/G-20 advocacy research
- Provide overall administrative support for grassroots program
- Provide logistical and administrative support/staffing for Global Network events and media briefings
Requirements:
- Superior writing skills
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Highly flexible/adaptive
- Excellent organizational skills
- Extremely detail oriented
- Superior formatting and editing detail on programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher
- Enjoys working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, team-oriented environment
- Ability to process information quickly
- Knowledge of and interest in public health, international development or a related field
- Social media/digital/web experience preferred
- Must be able available through the spring semester; a preference will be made for students available for the summer semester as well
