Peter Hotez Featured in the Huffington Post!

Sabin Vaccine President, Peter Hotez, is featured today in the Huffungton Post in which he wrote an article titled, “Clinton-Sebelius-Obama Apologies for Guatemala Are Just the First Step.” Hotez’s article discusses how,”Extremely low cost solutions are available for controlling the most common NTDs throughout Latin America. Through yearly mass deworming with medicines donated by the major drug companies or those purchased as low-cost generics, it is possible to drastically reduce the number of intestinal worms in the children of Guatemala and elsewhere. This approach has been shown to improve childhood growth and development, school performance and attendance, and may even lift children out of devastating poverty.”

Wrapping Up UN Week, But Not Shutting Up

It’s been an interesting week here in New York during UN Week. While the pace and spread of information has been frenzied, we can’t deny that the use of social media has opened up the conversation about international development, global health, and philanthropy to a much larger audience of caring, concerned citizens all across the globe.  The words “social good” have certainly entered into my rhetoric after this week. It’s been another whirlwind day here at the UN Week Digital Media Lounge.

I watched a live stream of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon from the UN Week Digital Media Lounge unveiling a $40 billion pledge from foundations, non-profits, governments and businesses that will go towards the MDG goals of improving the health of women and children.
