Today has been appointed to bring attention to two very important topics in public health – hepatitis and HIV/AIDS vaccine research. Hepatitis affects 500 million people world wide, and kills approximately 1 million people a year; vaccines are available for some of the strains (such as A and B), however, one has not been developed for C. In regards to HIV/AIDS vaccine research, although tens of thousands of voluntary research participants have engaged in vaccine research over the years, still more must be done to eliminate this virus.
In observance of today, our reading list includes great articles on news about both hepatitis and HIV/AIDS vaccine research. We’ve also included a blog post from TropIKA highlighting Dr. Peter Hotez’s article “Parasites in Paradise” published in The New York Times.
