January 2011 Volume 8 Issue 1 of WHO’s Communicable Diseases Newsletter features a piece titled: Mapping of Neglected Tropical Diseases in the South-East Asia (SEA) Region.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), the SEA Region is second among the countries with the largest burden of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). A closer examination of this region shows that Indonesia and India carry the highest burden of NTDs. However, despite the wide scope of NTDs in the SEA Region, there has been great success with effective intervention programs such as multi-drug treatment (MDT) and mass drug administration (MDA).
