Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the Drugs for Neglected Disease initiative (DNDi) and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine’s Global Health program will host a conference to discuss past medical advances and future global health needs as research and development for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) moves forward.  Global health stakeholders, including endemic country representatives, medical experts, private sector experts and advocates, as well as journalists and editors will convene in New York at Mount Sinai Hospital this December 13-14 for the forum, entitled “Lives in the Balance: Delivering Medical Innovations for Neglected Patients and Populations”.

The conference will address the imbalance in the research and development and the reality of global health needs over the past few decades, highlighting the large percentage of the world’s poorest people still living without access to modern health care.  The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the US National Institutes of Health, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, will deliver the keynote speech.  Additionally, there will be panels covering a variety of topics, including “Global Progress of the Past Decade for Research and Development for Neglected Patients”, which Sabin Vaccine Institute President, Dr. Peter Hotez, will serve as one of the discussants.
